The Belarusian Sambo championship will be held on September 17-19 in “Stayki”. The senior coach of the national Sambo team Vyacheslav Kot has told BELTA’s correspondent about it.
“We have already formed a team for the continental Sambo forum to be held in Yekaterinburg. However, some weight categories may be amended. The Belarusian championship will be a test start for our athletes. The coaching staff will look at the athletes’ physical conditions: after all, the competition has not been held for a long time and it is important for us to see what we have achieved. We have a busy calendar ahead of us, and we hope that all the planned competitions will be held on time,” said Vyacheslav Kot.
The program of the Belarusian championship also includes combat Sambo fights. According to the coach, these competitions are a great opportunity for the winners and prize-winners of the tournament to meet the standards of Master of Sports and Сandidate for Ьaster of Sports in Sambo. As Vyacheslav Kot noted, the athletes missed the tournaments and are raring to go.
It is planned that the European Sambo championship in Yekaterinburg (Russia) will be held on November 27-29.
At the 2019 continental forum in Gijon, Spain, the Belarusian Sambo team finished fourth in the team competition, winning one gold, five silver and six bronze medals
Recall that on November 30, 2018, the IOC recognized Sambo as an Olympic sport.
