On May 11 in Riga (Latvia) the elections of the new management of Latvian Sambo Club Association has taken place at the Board meeting of this organization. Vsevolods Zelionijs was elected unanimously as the President of Latvian Sambo Club Association.

Vsevolods Zelionijs was born on February 24th, 1973 in Riga. The victory on the World Sambo Championship among Youth as a part of USSR national team in 1989 in USA became the first serious success in Vsevolods’ sports career. Later Zelionijs won more than once medals on the Youth and Juniors Sambo championships of Soviet Union.

After Soviet Union disintegration in 1991 Zelionijs’ sports career was connected with judo in basic. Vsevolod repeatedly took part in Olympic Games and once (in Sydney-2000) won the Olympic bronze medal in weight category up to 73 kg.

After the end of sports career Vsevolods Zelionijs began to combine work in Latvian Judo Federation (where he is a Secretary General) with activity in Latvian Sambo Club Association. Until recently Zelionijs held a position of the Vice-president of Association and now headed it.

European Sambo Federation congratulates Vsevolods Zelionijs on a new position in the Latvian Sambo Club Association and wishes success in sambo development in Latvia!
