Approximately 200 participants from 12 Oblasts of the country gathered to compete for the Cup of Ukraine among Cadets, its fights were on April 21-22 in Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast. This was the first stage of qualification for the u-16 national team which would perform at the World Cadets SAMBO Championships by the end of this year.
The competitions on three mats had been welcomed by the Metallurg Athletic Indoor Arena which was, as witnessed by the tournament’s participants, “spacy and airy”. At the tournament’s opening ceremony, the spectators were charged with positive emotions. Thus, the local SAMBO federation presented a video dedicated to the implementation of the “SAMBO To Each And Every School” project in Donetsk Oblast. In the course of the competitions, the experts received the educational materials much sought-after locally. According to the National SAMBO Federation of Ukraine, in the framework of the project, 200 schools are scheduled to be duly equipped by the end of the current year (by now, over a hundred and a half of them have been provided with the mats and other SAMBO training gear).
During the opening ceremony, there was also staged an engaging quiz devoted to the World and Ukrainian history, as well as to the nuances of the SAMBO rules. The organizers had prepared about fifty questions and the equal number of T-shirts for those who gave the correct answers.
With real ardour, children were holding up their hands, to name the date of the first world championships, the first Ukrainian gold winners of the global and the USSR scale, the number of weight categories, and, of course, the official birthday of SAMBO, the 80th anniversary of which is celebrated in 2018.
One of the questions was to formulate the principle according to which the prize-winners in the team standings are determined since recently, that is, by the quality of the received awards. Needless to say, the team cups at the tournament in Bakhmut had been distributed according to the same medal ranking principle.
