Athletes from 27 countries of the world will compete in one of the main Sambo competitions, the European Championship, which will be held in Gijon in Spain from May 17 to 20.
The European Championships in sports and combat sambo have been held since 1972. Greece, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia, Great Britain, all these countries in various years have hosted sambo athletes from all corners of the world. In 2019, one of the main tournaments of the sports season will be held in Gijon, the coastal city of Spain. It is expected that 27 countries and more than 300 athletes will take part in from: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Holland, Germany, Georgia, Israel, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia.
It is worth noting that the European Championship will be held according to rules of the referees system and the scoring system in the team event. So, in accordance with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee, it was decided to count the points according to the results of competitions in Sambo in line with the Olympic system, medal table.
Competitions will be held in the Palace of Sports, at the address: Gijon, Paseo Dr. Fleming, 929, 33203. Athletes of 9 weight categories in sports sambo among men and women and in combat sambo among men will be fought on the mats.
