Sergey Eliseev: “We recived confirmation of participation from 21 countries”

March 15 2021

From March 25 to March 26, 2021, the Sambo World Cup “A. Kharlampiev Memorial” will be held in Moscow. The venue for the competition will traditionally be the Small Sports Arena of the Luzhniki Stadium (Luzhnetskaya nab., 24, bld. 3). The guests of the event will see performances in three disciplines: men’s, women’s and combat sambo.

“Of course, it is not necessary to expect that the competition will be held in full, since there is still a difficult epidemiological situation in other countries. Thus, some states have not yet opened their borders, while others have not launched their domestic sports competitions. Despite this, in my opinion, the World Cup will go well. Today we have confirmation of participation from 21 countries of the world.

The cup will also be interesting because it is the first international event to be held under the new rules and in new weight categories. Of particular interest is the fact that we do not know in advance how the medals will be distributed and who will become the leader in the new weight on the international arena.

Also, at the moment we have permission from the Government to fill the stands by spectators by 50%. I think that this will be enough. Especially considering that people are still trying to attend less public events anyway. In any case, we will try to accommodate all those who come so that everyone is comfortable. And at the same time, observe all the rules that Rospotrebnadzor set for us,” commented the President of the European Sambo Federation Sergey Eliseev.

The competition will be organized by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Department of Sports and Tourism of Moscow, the International Sambo Federation (FIAS), as well as the All-Russian Sambo Federation and the Moscow Sambo Federation.

It should be noted that this year the World Cup will differ not only in that the participating countries will be able to present two teams at the competition, but also in that the competition will be held for the first time in new international weight categories.
