The European SAMBO Championships and the European Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships will be held in the city of Limassol (Republic of Cyprus) from 26 to 29 May. General partner of the tournament is Rosneft oil company.
Athletes from 28 countries are expected to take part in the competition: Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Israel, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, North Macedonia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Estonia.
The European SAMBO Championships and the European Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships will be held according to the new rules of the refereeing system, and the scoring will be in accordance with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee, when the team classification is formed according to the won medals.
“SAMBO is gaining more and more popularity outside of Russia, and these competitions promise to present the audience with many spectacular fights between the strongest sambo wrestlers in the world. Athletes in Sport SAMBO among men and women, in Combat SAMBO among men, as well as boys and girls under 18, juniors under 20 will struggle at the mats. Today, athletes from Georgia, Belarus, Ukraine and France are clearly competing with the favorites — Russian sambists — in Europe,” the press service of the European SAMBO Federation noted.
The 2021 European SAMBO Championships and the European Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships will be held for the first time in new weight categories:
