Combat Sambo League Grand Prix will be held in Ulan-Ude

May 18

On May 18, Ulan-Ude city will host the Combat Sambo Grand Prix. The distinctive feature of this Grand Prix is that it will be held according to the rules of the Combat Sambo League. The Combat Sambo League is an organization created to popularize combat sambo, support and promote athletes in the professional arena.

In February 2020, a declaration on the establishment of the Combat SAMBO League was signed. The first tournament according to the League rules was held in Sochi, attended by President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

The founders of the League were: Arkady Rotenberg — President of the League, Vasily Shestakov — President of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS), Sergey Eliseev — President of the All-Russian Sambo Federation.

The motto of the League is “You can’t beat a man lying down”.

At this stage of the Grand Prix there will be no preliminary meetings, the title fights in each weight category — finals — will take place at once.

“For a long time we have been nurturing the idea of how to integrate the League into the format of calendar sambo competitions. The Grand Prix was a very good starting point for us. This is not the first time Ulan-Ude has hosted major sambo tournaments, and the discipline of combat sambo is developing very well in this region, and for many years the Russian national team has included representatives of Buryatia.” — Aleksandr Vladimirovich Konakov, senior coach of the Russian national combat sambo team, commented.

The list of participants is already known, 7 foreigners and 7 representatives of Russia.
