Sambo will be the only new sport in Chengdu compared to the 2022 Games in Birmingham, USA. FIAS became a member of the IWGA in 2021.

Sambo was previously part of the official program of the World Games in London (Great Britain) in 1985 and in The Hague (Netherlands) in 1993.

In 2025, the World Games will be held for the 12th time. It is a multi-sport competition that includes sports and disciplines not included in the Olympic Games.

The 2025 World Games will be held in Asia for the second time in history and for the first time in China.

The official design of the 2025 World Games (TWG 2025) medal has been unveiled in Chengdu. The medal is called Zhuguang, meaning “Bamboo Light.” It will be awarded to the winners of the Games, including the combat sambo tournaments, which will take place on August 13-14.

The TWG 2025 medal is designed with references to China’s cultural heritage and the symbolism of the city of Chengdu. The front side features the IWGA logo framed by the name of the event in English and Chinese. The design also incorporates elements of the ancient “Sun and Immortal Birds” ornament, whose relief echoes the silhouette of the city.

The reverse side of the medal is inspired by the image of bamboo, a symbol of sustainability and honesty in Chinese culture. The TWG 2025 logo takes center stage, complemented by a stylized image of the games’ mascot, Shu Bao the panda. Inside the medal is a relief image of a hibiscus flower, the symbol of Chengdu, representing friendship.
