From July 1 to 28, the Romanian national team held a training camp to prepare athletes for the Beach Sambo World Championship.
The camp was led by the national team’s coaching staff and the president of the national sambo federation, Viorel Gyiska. The KEILE GRADISTEI sports complex was chosen as the venue for the camp. It is worth noting that the sports complex will host participants in the Winter Youth Olympic Festival, which will take place in 2027.
The next competition for the Romanian national team is the World Beach Sambo Championship. The Romanian national team is one of the main contenders for medals in both individual and team competitions. For many years in a row, athletes have been proving their skill level by winning victories at the World Beach Sambo Championships.
“As part of the athletes’ training, we did a lot of work on general physical training, as well as working on wrestling on sand. Beach sambo differs from the sport we are used to, so we focused on that as well. Wrestling in the sand seems sticky, but here every mistake can lead to defeat, so we prepared our athletes taking these features into account!” — noted Viorel Gasca, President of the Romanian National Sambo Federation.
Romanian athletes participating in the training event were personally welcomed and wished success by the President of the Romanian Olympic Committee, Mihai COVALIU.
