The Pearl of the East, ancient Bukhara, will host the World Sambo Masters Championship at the end of October. Experienced athletes over the age of 35 will take to the mats to rekindle their competitive spirit and prove that dedication to sambo knows no age limits.
The competition will be held at the modern Universal Sports Complex . The organizers are the Sambo Association of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS).
The format of the tournament for masters is unique. It is not beginners who meet here, but fighters with a wealth of life and sporting experience. They don’t need to prove anything — they take to the mat for the love of sambo, for tradition and camaraderie. The athletes are divided into age groups — from 35 to 65 years old and older — and the fights take place in classic weight categories: from 64 kg to over 98 kg.
The choice of Bukhara as the venue for the tournament is symbolic: it is a city where history and culture live in every stone. It is here that sambo veterans will gather to once again experience the atmosphere of a major international sporting event.
