The World SAMBO Cup will take place April 11-12 in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan. The tournament regulations are now available on the official FIAS website calendar.
In recent years, the Armenian capital has regularly hosted top-level SAMBO competitions. The 2026 World Cup will feature three disciplines:
Sport SAMBO — Men and women will compete in seven weight categories each. Men will compete in the 58, 64, 71, 79, 88, 98, and over 98 kg categories, while women will compete in the 50, 54, 59, 65, 72, 80, and over 80 kg categories.
Combat SAMBO — A dynamic discipline where striking techniques and a broader arsenal of moves are permitted. Weight categories mirror those of Sport SAMBO, but the competition will be held without a repechage system, making each bout particularly intense.
Blind SAMBO — An inclusive category demonstrating SAMBO’s universality as a sport. Men in the SVI1 sport class will compete in three categories (64, 79, and 98 kg), while women will compete in two (54 and 59 kg).
All national SAMBO federations within FIAS are invited to participate. Each country may enter up to two athletes per weight category. Athletes born in 2008 or earlier are eligible to compete, corresponding to an 18+ age requirement. The tournament will bring together athletes from different continents.
The competition will be held at the Gazprom Training and Sports Complex — a modern sports facility that fully meets international standards for hosting high-level tournaments.
Participant registration is conducted exclusively through the FIAS online system: https://fms.sambo.sport/login. The registration deadline in the FIAS database and application submission is March 27. This is a mandatory requirement for all participants.
Delegations are scheduled to arrive April 9-10. During these days, accreditation will take place, along with training sessions, a team representatives’ meeting, and the draw. Special attention will be given to preparing visually impaired athletes — their classification will begin on April 9.
The World SAMBO Cup serves several strategic objectives. Beyond promoting SAMBO and improving athletes’ skills, the tournament aims to strengthen international sports ties and advance SAMBO as an Olympic sport.
The competition also plays a key role in athlete ranking selection, affecting FIAS world rankings and determining the best in each weight category and discipline.
The tournament will be officiated by international-level referees. The draw will be conducted openly using FIAS computer software.
The complete competition regulations are now published in the calendar on the official FIAS website: https://sambo.sport/en/events/kubok-mira-po-sambo-v-armenii-2026/
