Unity on the Mat: The German Sambo Open International Tournament Held in Karlsruhe

July 01

The Federal Republic of Germany has confirmed its status as a center for Sambo development. The large-scale German Sambo Open International Tournament, which brought together participants from 23 countries, concluded at the Lina-Radke-Halle Sports Complex.

The tournament’s program covered the full spectrum of Sambo, with competitions held in both sport and combat Sambo. In the cadet category, coaches were able to appreciate the growing potential of young talents. The junior bouts were memorable for their uncompromising competition and thirst for victory. However, the primary focus of the spectators in the stands was on the adult sambists.

Representatives of the German National Sambo Federation and Budo Club Karlsruhe ensured a high level of organization. The mat, refereeing, and technical equipment allowed the sambists to fully concentrate on throws, painful holds, and tactical wrestling.

Despite the differences in their respective sports backgrounds, an atmosphere of mutual respect reigned on the mats. Fans enthusiastically supported not only their fellow countrymen but also applauded the spectacular moves of their opponents.

Behind the medal count and tournament standings lay a more global goal. The German Sambo Open in Karlsruhe clearly demonstrated that sambo is not just a sport, but an effective tool for public diplomacy. In an informal setting, athletes and official representatives of delegations from 23 countries exchanged experiences, agreed on joint training camps, and built bridges of friendship.

Following the official awards ceremony, the organizers noted the high level of skill of the participants and expressed confidence that a tournament of this format would become a tradition. It is worth noting that representatives of the Karlsruhe city administration and Alexander Korsik, Director General of the International Sambo Federation, were present at the opening ceremony. Given the growing interest in sambo in Europe, the German Sambo Open has every chance of becoming a key event on the international calendar.

Thanks to the well-coordinated work of the organizers and the German National Sambo Federation, Karlsruhe once again proved that it is a welcoming city open to big-time sports!
