A master class on the development of young sambists

July 14

On July 12, 2026, in Sofia, as part of the international tournament “Ivan Doctorov” 2026, honored master of sambo Dimitar Dimitrov held a special master class for young sambists.

The class was not simply a demonstration of technique, but an in-depth practical lesson based on Dimitar Dimitrov’s observations of the previous day’s bouts. During the tournament, he closely monitored the young sambists’ performances, analyzed the most common technical and tactical errors, and focused the master class specifically on eliminating them.

The main focus was on proper release and escape from holds, control of the opponent, and effective ground fighting. Dimitar Dimitrov demonstrated specific sambo techniques, practical variations, and important details that often go unnoticed but can decide the outcome of an even fight.

Young sambists had the opportunity not only to observe but also to directly perform the techniques demonstrated, ask questions, and receive specific instructions. Each movement was explained clearly and consistently, with attention to correct body position, balance, timing, and subsequent control on the ground.

The master class demonstrated that true development doesn’t end with the referee’s final signal. Every bout is a lesson, every mistake an opportunity for growth, and every acquired knowledge is an investment in the future of Sambo.
